Alexandria Police Department posted on Facebook they stopped a driver on Saturday who used cut-out flyers and a cheese wrapper to make it appear that her registration and inspection stickers were up-to-date.
In the comments on its Facebook post, Alexandria police wrote, “We can’t even file this under the ‘A for effort’ category.”
They also joked that they were surprised to find out that Hannaford was issuing inspection stickers.
Making fake stickers is a misdemeanor and punishable by a fine up to $1,200. Alexandria police said the driver could be fined up to $2,400 in this case.
Her car was towed and will remain impounded until she properly registers it or has it properly towed from the lot.
Alexandria police on Monday issued a warning to drivers after stopping a car with fake inspection and registration stickers over the weekend.
